Missing a tooth or teeth doesn’t mean that your only options are dentures or bridges. You may be able to reclaim your smile with a third option.
Dental implants are a popular and effective way to replace missing teeth and are designed to blend in perfectly with your natural smile. Made of titanium and other materials compatible with the human body, dental implants are posts that are surgically placed in the jaw, where they begin to function as a sturdy anchor for replacement teeth.
Normally, there are three phases to receiving an implant here at Trinity Oaks Family Dental & Orthodontics:
- First, the oral surgeon surgically places the implant(s) into the jawbone.
- Next, osseointegration takes place. Osseointegration means “combines with the bone,” and is what makes an implant so strong. This process takes time, so most patients need to wait several months for the implant to completely integrate before a replacement tooth can be attached.
- Lastly, we place the artificial tooth/teeth. For a single tooth implant, your dentist will attach a dental crown, which is a new tooth, customized according to the size, shape, color and fit of your original tooth, so that it blends perfectly. If we have to replace more than a single tooth, we will custom-make bridges or dentures to fit your mouth and your implants.
